Sieben gute Gründe, LiLi zu wählen (Englisch)

Our offer you can’t refuse

Of course there are a thousand good reasons to vote for the Linke Liste at this year’s student council (SP) election. These you will find in our magazine and other publications. However, we have taken seven particularly good reasons and present them here for you.

1. Abolish tuition

Starting April 2004, the government will grab 650 Euro per semester from almost 20 percent of all students in Bochum. In the student government (AStA), the Linke Liste will counsel those having to pay, actively support people going to court against the new tuition system and continue to organize resistance against any form of tuition or fee.

2. Independence from parties

At this year’s student council election, the youth groups of CDU/CSU, SPD, FDP, and the Greens are running against the Linke Liste. We have no ties to any party whatsoever. Instead, we are a group composed of the non-parlamentarian, antifascist, and undogmatic left.

3. Support grassroot groups

The Linke Liste will look to maintaining the AStA as a reliable partner of independent student and non-student groups. We will support Fachschaften, cultural events (such as the Bochumer Videofestival) and emancipatory projects.

4. Put pressure on the uni administration

Overcrowded lecture rooms, problematic ideas for the future of teacher education, chaos in the new B.A./B.Sc. courses: There still are lots of problems with the current “reforms”. In the AStA, the Linke Liste will keep putting pressure on the university’s administration. The reforms that have begun to be undertaken must not lead to adverse effects on the students in any way.

5. Further criticism in higher learning

Life extends beyond going to school, and academics is more than what you hear in the official lectures and seminars. We want to make critical positions heard by sponsoring lectures, discussions and readings.

6. Fight nazis

The Linke Liste will not remain passive, when Nazis march through Bochum, nor will we tolerate the frequent attacks upon those who don’t fit the Nazis’ world view. We are active in city-wide anti-Nazi projects and organize events against the right with partners from throughout town.

7. Stop privatization

Corporations founded by the university (such as the “Akademie der RUB”) must be watched closely. More and more lectures and seminars at university (such as the German courses for non-native speakers) actually cost money, a trend that must be stopped. And, of course, with us the Kulturcafé will remain an event location for parties and alternative culture and won’t be leased to the private sector.

Vote Linke Liste from 26 to 30 January!
